Galpin Auto Sports Ford GTR1 revealed

Previewed here last month, the Galpin Auto Sports Ford GTR1 supercar made its first public appearance as part of the recent Pebble Beach festivities. Designed and developed by the go-faster wing of the world’s largest Ford dealer, the GTR1 is based on the limited-edition Ford GT model that was built between 2004 and 2006. The GAS gang aimed high in creating this ultra-spec road rager, fitting it with a 5.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 tuned to make 1,024 horsepower and 739 lb-ft of torque on premium unleaded. Those figures rise to an even more stunning 1,197/887 when you feed it 100-octane fuel. Galpin says the GTR1 will sprint from 0-60 mph in a scant 3.1 seconds and can top out on the far side of 225 mph.

The fully-engineered prototype of Galpin Auto Sports’ first coach-built supercar wears a hand-formed aluminum body created by renowned SoCal vehicle fabricators Metalcrafters. Set off with unique LED-infused front and rear lighting elements, this striking wrapper is five inches wider than a standard Ford GT shell and will be available in carbon fiber for customers who want an even lighter-weight alternative. World-class stopping power comes from a set of custom racing brakes with carbon-carbon rotors clamped by Brembo 6-piston calipers. Keeping the GTR1 firmly hooked to the pavement are a set of sticky Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires wrapped around 20-inch forged-aluminum alloy wheels with racing-style center knock-off hubs.

Rounding out its competition-inspired persona, the GTR1’s cabin features an equally high-performance character that starts with a machined-aluminum instrument cluster, unique sport buckets and a high-fidelity McIntosh sound system. While the premium Bridge of Weir leather in the prototype is rendered in blue Sateen Marine, buyers will be able to stipulate any color or stitch pattern they choose. Initial build plans for the Galpin Auto Sports Ford GTR1 call for a limited run of six and no more than 24 units.
