Ford will unveil an all-new version of its Ranger midsize truck in three weeks. The Michigan-based automaker has released a video with a few teaser shots of the truck to get shoppers excited for the date.
Global Reveal First, U.S. Model Later
The new Ranger will be a truly global truck, sold in more than 180 countries. Ford will show off the international edition first, with Ford Australia getting the first official glimpse.
The American version of the truck will appear later, possibly as a 2023 model.
Family Resemblance
The video confirms that the next Ranger will borrow design elements from Ford’s best-selling vehicle, the full-size F-150 pickup. Like the new, smaller Maverick, the next Ranger gets big C-shaped LED running lights that bracket its grille.
It’s hard to tell more than that from the strategically-darkened photo. But earlier spy shots have suggested lower, easier-loading side rails and a wider grille than the current Ranger.
Hybrid, Ranger Raptor Possible
Other rumors have suggested that a plug-in hybrid drivetrain may be coming to the Ranger. Ford offers a hybrid (though not a plug-in hybrid) version of the Maverick, which nearly sold out in the first month it was available. That may suggest pent-up demand for hybrids among the Ford truck faithful.
The 2023 Ranger may also get a high-performance edition wearing the Raptor badge, according to online reports.
We’ll bring more details on November 24, when Ford Australia drops the curtain.
