Ford Motor Company has just opened the doors on its Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto, a new facility aimed at "accelerating the company’s innovation in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and big data." Located in the Stanford Research Park, this latest addition to the automaker’s expansive global R&D operation is gearing up to employ 125 researchers, engineers and scientists by year’s end, making it one of the largest of any automaker in the Silicon Valley area.

"Growing the Palo Alto team will strengthen our global research prowess and drive innovation needed to meet the needs of our customers in the future," said Ken Washington, vice president, Ford Research and Advanced Engineering. "Working together with the Silicon Valley research community will spark the new ideas, products and services that will help Ford once again change the way the world moves."

The new Ford facility is headed up by Dragos Maciuca, an engineer who was plucked from the nearby Apple Inc. tree. Maciuca’s brings expertise in the areas of consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace and automotive technologies. His background includes engineering stints at both Nissan and BMW.
