Ford is recalling 604,533 vehicles due to intermittent stoppage of the windshield wiper motor. The following vehicles are affected:
- 2020-2022 Ford Escape
- 2020-2022 Ford Explorer
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that “During assembly of the front windshield wiper motor, the motor’s cover terminal may have been misaligned with the brush card terminal.”
This problem can cause the windshield wipers to seize and may prevent them from functioning properly, which could lead to “loss of visibility in certain conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.”
In 2021, Ford investigated warranty claims and customer complaints, but the investigation was closed. According to the NHTSA filing, in November of 2025, the investigation was reopened, “after observing an increased rate of occurrence during the suspect production period,” for the affected vehicles and determined that the issue should be addressed for the model years noted.
Ford dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiper motor.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning May 11, 2026.
