The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that “the windshield wiper arm’s latch retention plate may have been incorrectly staked at the supplier.”
This issue can cause the windshield wiper arm to move at an “erratic wipe speed” or completely detach from the vehicle. During an incident, the driver might have reduced visibility, or if the wiper arm detaches, it could lead to an accident.
Ford is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to this issue.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect affected vehicles and correctly stake the latch retention plate and wiper arm splines according to specification.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning April 13, 2026.
