Ford has recalled 115,539 Super Duty trucks from model years 2020-2021 because their steering columns can detach, causing a loss of control.
Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2020-2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
- 2020-2021 Ford F-350 Super Duty
- 2020-2021 Ford F-450 Super Duty
The company tells federal safety officials that “the steering column upper shaft hard slider does not satisfy anti-pull apart load specifications.” It can separate without warning, leaving the driver unable to steer the truck.
The company states that it’s aware of no injuries or accidents related to the problem.
Dealers will fix it by inspecting the steering column, looking for any signs of instability. “Parts that do not pass inspection will be replaced. Parts that pass inspection will be modified to improve pull-apart retention,” the company says.
Recall repairs are always free.
