Ford recalled 239 Mustang Mach-E SUVs from model year 2022 because they could suddenly lose drive power.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that charging from a DC fast charger (the fastest type of charger, not found in homes) and “repeated wide open pedal events can cause the high-voltage battery main contactors to overheat.” That can cause the surfaces to deform and disconnect from the battery.
Ford says, in most cases, owners will see a safety warning as the problem develops.
Dealers will replace the entire high-voltage battery junction box to fix the problem. The replacement part has an updated design and should not be subject to the same problem.
