Ford has issued a recall for 6,897 Maverick pickups from model years 2025 and 2026 because a dashboard panel can detach if the airbag inflates, posing a projectile hazard in an accident.
The company tells federal safety regulators that the panel atop the driver’s display “may have insufficient weld adhesion.” It can come loose in an accident, propelled off by the inflating airbag.
The company is not aware of this happening on any customer cars, but observed it during its own internal safety testing.
Dealers will replace the panel to fix the problem.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
