Ford has announced a recall covering just three examples of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup from model year 2023.
Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “Affected vehicles may have one or more missing or loose retention nuts on the high voltage battery junction box bus bars in the high voltage battery pack.” That could cause an electrical arc, which might trigger a fire.
Drivers might hear a loud noise and see a “stop safely now” message on the driver’s screen if an arc happens, Ford says. The truck will lose motive power but keep assisted steering and braking so the driver can safely coast to a stop.
Dealers will inspect for missing or loose nuts, Ford says. “If any of the retention nuts are loose or missing, further repairs will be necessary, and owners may be provided a rental vehicle until final repair instructions are available.”
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
