Ford Recalls Escape SUVs Over Falling Trim Pieces

The 2025 Ford Escape in red see in profile in motion

Ford has recalled 108,762 Escape SUVs from model years 2020-2022 and 2025 because trim pieces that cover the hinges that open their rear liftgates can fall off.

Ford initially dismissed the idea of a recall over this issue, concluding that the missing covers didn’t create a safety hazard.

However, the company has faced a series of other recalls recently due to falling trim pieces, concluding that these required recalls because they could create road debris. Under pressure from federal regulators about its huge number of recalls, the company conducted an internal study looking at trim pieces and adhesives for possible problems. The team conducting the study decided to issue this recall out of an abundance of caution.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by the falling covers.

Dealers will inspect the covers. If they are missing, they’ll replace them. If they are present, they’ll remove them and reinstall them securely.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
