Ford has recalled 35 Bronco SUVs from model years 2021-2022 because a repair under an earlier recall may have left them with rearview cameras that don’t turn off.
Ford recalled more than 12,000 Broncos last summer because their backup cameras did not turn off after use. Dealers fixed most with a software update.
But the company has since learned that the system it used for software patches could sometimes report success even when an upload failed. Dealers returned some vehicles to their owners, believing they’d been fixed when they hadn’t.
Ford can identify which vehicles didn’t get the fix the first time. So, the company will contact those owners and arrange to perform the upload again. Dealers have a new process that verifies a successful installation.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
