Ford Issues Recall for Bronco SUVs With Faulty Hardtops

Ford has recalled 16,200 Broncos from model years 2021 and 2022 due to potential cracking of the hardtops.

In a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, Ford stated that the affected models are equipped with Molded-In-Color (MIC) hardtops. Both 2- and 4-door models are affected. Environmental exposure can cause these hard tops to crack or delaminate over time.

If the hardtop deteriorates, pieces can break off and detach from the vehicle’s roof panel. These pieces can create road hazards for other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.

Ford has created replacement hardtops using an updated manufacturing process that helps reduce adhesion concerns on the old components. If you take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer, they will replace your old one with the updated one at no cost.

If your vehicle is affected by the recall, you should receive a letter in the mail by May 29, 2026. However, the letter containing the remedy will not be mailed until November 5, 2026.

Manufacturers issue wave after wave of recalls that affect millions of drivers. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
