- The 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor gets all-terrain tires, a lifted ride height, and other trail gear
Ford will add an off-road specialist trim to its Explorer SUV lineup for 2026. The Explorer Tremor gets trail gear like all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels and one inch of added ride height.
In Ford nomenclature, a Raptor is a high-speed off-road beast, and a Tremor is a trail-oriented model more capable than other trim levels but less aggressive and expensive than a Raptor. Ford hasn’t revealed a price for the Explorer Tremor, but we expect it to slot in the middle of the lineup. The 2025 model in showrooms today starts at $41,350, with prices rising into the mid-$50,000 range.
The Explorer saw a significant makeover for 2025. But the remake left it without a dedicated off-road model after the former Timberline model left the lineup after the 2024 model year. Ford teased this one in March.
The Tremor fills that gap. A higher ride height gives it better approach, departure, and breakover angles. A standard limited-slip differential gives the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system added traction when the ground gets slippery. Front and rear skid plates give the powertrain added protection for rock crawling.
Ford says the suspension has been recalibrated for off-roading, and now “includes specially tuned springs and sway bars.”
A turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque is standard, but buyers can opt for a turbocharged V6 making 400 hp and 415 lb-ft for an added cost.
You’ll spot an Explorer Tremor easily. Ford gives it tow hooks, Tremor badges, a grille accent bar, and wheel details in a bright bronze color it calls “electric spice.”
The same color appears inside in contrast-color stitching.
