The recall applies to cars sold or registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
The regional restriction has nothing to do with the cars. It’s about weather.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford explains that repeated exposure to high temperatures and humidity can cause a rubber bumper to degrade and separate from the brake pedal. That can leave the brake lights permanently lit. In some cases, drivers can shift affected cars out of park without touching the brake pedal.
Ford dealers will replace the brake pedal and clutch pedal bumpers free of charge.
