Ford and its Lincoln luxury brand are recalling 24,690 plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a potential short circuit in the high-voltage battery. The following vehicles are affected:
- 2023-2025 Ford Escape PHEV
- 2023-2026 Lincoln Corsair PHEV
The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that “the vehicle’s high voltage battery cells may experience internal short circuiting.”
Though Ford reports that steering, braking, and lighting functions are not affected, drivers should be aware that this issue could cause a complete vehicle shutdown or potentially spark a fire.
Ford previously recalled the Corsair and Escape for similar issues. This latest recall extends to additional units. The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford is working on a resolution. In the meantime, the company recommends that owners use Auto EV mode and charge vehicles to only 80%. Charging can be set through Ford SYNC in the infotainment system.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning this week, and a guide with additional information will be sent.
Vehicle recalls impact millions of drivers each year, and although automakers work hard to notify all affected owners, some individuals may still not receive the information.
