While the new 2015 VW e-Golf won’t be arriving in showrooms until next month, the automaker is offering one individual the chance to move to the front of the line for early access to the first example of its first-ever EV model. Securing the vehicle will require a winning bid in an online auction Volkswagen of America is holding in conjunction with Global Green USA, a non-profit environmental support group that will benefit from the profits generated by the event.

As we previously reported, the new VW e-Golf will retail for $36,265 and is a mono-spec model based on a top-line SEL Premium trim grade. It features a 115-horsepower electric motor fed by a 24.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack that VW says should let the car travel between 70-90 miles on a single charge. Developing an impressive 199 lb-ft of torque, it also promises to give the new e-Golf "brisk" acceleration.
