Fiat 500L-Vans Design Concept unveiled

All of the excitement at this weekend’s Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, wasn’t confined to the water. Fiat along with the event’s title sponsor and iconic footwear maker, added a bit of dry-land diversion in the form of the Fiat 500L-Vans Design Concept. Based on the 500L crossover, this surf-centric one-off features a two-tone finish – complete with a Vans signature skate shoe checkerboard pattern rooftop. The custom front fascia gets four circular LED driving lamps and a new grille insert reshaped to replicate Vans signature Waffle Sole design, the same motif found on the 500L’s step pad and cladding elements. Rounding out the look are 18-inch matte-black alloy wheels and a Mopar-provided Thule roof rack with a basket and double-decker surfboard carrier.

Inside, the Fiat 500L-Vans Design Concept pulls key visual cues from the athletic shoemaker’s original high-top, from vintage palm-patterned upholstery fabric to an assortment of Vans vintage stickers on the dash to another dose of rubberized Waffle Sole tread material on the storage bins and pedals. At the moment, there are no plans to turn this high-profile mini-hauler into a limited-edition offering, but anything is possible given a positive reaction among potential buyers.
