Ferrari Pondering Future “Utility” Entry

While never using the terms “crossover” or “SUV,” Ferrari boss Sergio Marchionne has admitted the chances are good the automaker will expand its future product horizons to include some type of unique Ferrari-flavored “utility” vehicle. Speaking during a conference call this week, Marchionne noted it would be a roomy 4-passenger offering aimed at helping Ferrari increase both its profits and market presence.

Ferrari’s high-profile CE, who also heads up Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, took great pains to stress that if such a vehicle were to appear, it would be something intended to literally reinvent the segment and be nothing like the conventional upscale SUVs currently being turned out by other luxury makers. Ferrari is expected to outline a new 5-year master plan that would run through 2022 early next year. When that does happen, we should hear more details about this potential groundbreaking Ferrari utility variant.
