Dodge Ram TRX Seeing Markups as High as $50,000

2021 Ram 1500 TRX

The 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX has an MSRP of $70,095. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find one for anything near that price. Now that the monstrous performance truck has started shipping out from the factory, dealerships have started figuring out what they can get for the things…and the markups are severe.

The TRX is far from the standard Ram 1500. It’s essentially an off-road racing machine, with a massive, 702-horsepower Hellcat V-8, a strengthened frame, and beefier suspension. It doesn’t hide its performance chops, either – a wider body and a hood with two huge rows of vents mean no one will mistake a TRX for a normal truck. Inside, it offers luxury-car amenities, with leather everywhere and all the latest electronics.

But it’s not priced as a six-figure car. Even the limited edition Launch version, fully loaded with every available option, claims an MSRP of $92,405.

Yet a search through TRX trucks currently for sale, as listed on our sister site Autotrader, shows Ram 1500 TRX trucks routinely listed for much more. The highest asking price we see at the moment is $146,785, from a Florida dealer that has two models with the Launch package posted at that price. But prices in the $110,000 to $120,000 range appear in every region of the country. Odd listings include a Diamond Black TRX at a Houston dealership listed at $119,633 used. The ad claims one owner, who put only 185 miles on it.

So, if you’re in the market for a pickup with supercar power, are you out of luck? No. We also found a few dozen TRX trucks listed for approximately their manufacturer recommended price. So this seems like an excellent time to remind you that, in the pandemic, it’s possible to buy a car completely online without ever visiting a dealership…and even to have one shipped to you from several states away.
