2022 Corvette Sees Engine Updates, Price Bump

Chevrolet can’t build Corvettes fast enough. Americans snap them up almost as soon as they leave the factory.

Excluding rare exotic cars, a recent Cox Automotive analysis found the 2021 Corvette Stingray to be the fastest-selling car in America. GM has just six days’ worth of ‘Vettes on hand, while automakers have an average of 35 days’ supply of most cars (and that is considered an alarmingly low number caused by supply chain problems). Cox Automotive is the parent company of Kelley Blue Book.

Chevy doesn’t need to make big changes for the 2022 model year with that success in mind. Dealers will begin taking orders for the 2022 model on July 1. Coupe pricing starts at $61,100 (plus a $1,095 destination charge). Convertible editions start at $68,600. Both prices include a bump of less than $200 over 2021 figures.

Engine Tweaked for Lower Emissions

Chevy says it has upgraded the fuel injection system on the 2022 Stingray’s 6.2-liter V8. The power rating remains unchanged at 490 horsepower (495 with the available performance exhaust). But GM says the changes should lower emissions.

Other changes include a new, low-profile rear spoiler. The front splitter from the Z51 will now appear on every ‘Vette. And three new colors bow – Amplify Orange, Hypersonic Gray, and a glorious metallic brown called Caffeine that you have to see to understand.

Special Edition Celebrates Racing Success

For die-hard ‘Vette lovers, there will be a new limited edition celebrating Corvette Racing’s 2020 sweep of the IMSA sports car championship series. The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is based on the 3LT trim with the Z51 performance package but adds a unique livery in Accelerate Yellow with gray racing accents or Hypersonic Gray with yellow racing accents.

The package adds $6,595 to the retail price.
