- The Chrysler Pacifica Grizzly Peak Concept is a lifted off-road minivan prepped for camping
Chrysler’s future is open to a blank page. One of the oldest, most storied American automakers, the brand has let its lineup dwindle to just a single minivan (though the company pretends it’s two – the Voyager is little more than a trim level of Pacifica).
So, designers are hard at work imagining the company’s next step. Their latest pitch? A minivan.
Chrysler brought a new concept car to the Overland Expo Mountain West event in Colorado over the weekend. Concept cars are visions of possible future cars, and don’t always become production models.
This one, however, could. It wouldn’t take much to bring it to fruition. After all, it’s a Pacifica.
The Chrysler Pacifica Grizzly Peak Concept is an off-road-oriented minivan for the van-life set.
It has all-wheel drive (AWD) and uses a suspension lift to raise the van’s front by 2.75 inches and its rear by 2.5. Off-road BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires should give it enough grip to stay out of trouble in the mud.
A Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform roof storage rack allows gear to be stored up top, while a roof-mounted awning gives campers shade from the sun.
Inside, Chrysler removed the third row of seats to create sleeping room. A 115-volt outlet allows for accessory use back there, and additional tie-downs let you pack more gear inside. The remaining seats are Katzkin leather, with all-weather floor mats throughout for easy cleaning.
Chrysler doesn’t say the Grizzly Peak is destined for production. But we could see it catching on. Ford briefly created its own van for van lifers, the Transit Trail. But it didn’t last long. Ford canceled it after less than three years, citing supply chain problems.
