Chevy Shows Off 2027 Corvette Grand Sport; Details Slim

Five generations of Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

  • Details on the car are slim, but industry rumors say a new engine may be coming.

Chevrolet brought five generations of Corvette Grand Sport to the 2026 running of the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race over the weekend.

Why is that news?

Because the world knew there were four generations of Corvette Grand Sport.

The Grand Sport was born in the early 1960s. Initially intended as a pure race car, it reappeared in the 1990s as a special performance edition built in small numbers for public sale. In every generation since, Grand Sports have appeared, usually with the base model’s engine but trackworthy brakes and wider bodywork hiding wider tires.

Traditionally, you spot a Grand Sport by its pair of red hash marks on the front fenders.

The current Corvette, however, is different from all prior models because its engine is mounted behind the driver. Accordingly, the 8th-generation Grand Sport wears its markings on the rear. In keeping with prior models, it wears wider bodywork, allowing for more grippy rubber.

That’s all we know about the model, for now. But a persistent industry rumor says this one may get an engine upgrade over the 490-horsepower V8 of the base model, and may borrow some electrification from the all-wheel drive (AWD) Corvette E-Ray hybrid.

We’ll know more soon. Chevrolet says details will be released this week.
