Chevrolet won’t release details on its new fastest car until October 23. But they’re happy to whet our appetites in the meantime.
The company has released the first official image of its upcoming 2023 Corvette Stingray Z06. It appears substantially different from the Corvette Stingray in showrooms today.
Corvettes Already Hard to Find
Or, we should say, the one that should be filling the blank spot in showrooms – the Corvette has consistently been one of the fastest-selling cars in America since its 2019 debut. In today’s market, with many cars in short supply thanks to global supply chain problems, it’s difficult to find a Corvette to buy.
The Race-Bred ‘Vette
Z06, in case you need a refresher, has been the name given to the top-of-the-line Corvette for much of the car’s history. It traditionally borrows parts from Chevy’s racing stable.
Rumors suggest the 2023 Corvette Z06 will keep that tradition going. It may carry a flat-plane crank V8 – a type of engine known for its extremely high rotation speed and commonly found on race cars and European supercars. Chevy posted a brief video this summer, apparently taken from the front of a car as it raced around a track. The high-pitched scream of the engine gave it away.
Aggressive Aero Styling
The photo released yesterday shows huge, reshaped air scoops to feed that screaming engine. An aggressive front splitter should help keep it glued to the track. There is a rear wing present, but it’s significantly smaller than one seen in some track testing videos. That may lend credence to rumors that the Z06 itself will be split into two trim levels, with the larger wing part of an even-more-track-focused package.
We’ll know more next month.
