Chevrolet has recalled 23,700 Equinox EV SUVs from model year 2024 because they don’t make enough sound to warn pedestrians they’re near.
Electric vehicles (EVs) can be so quiet that they create a safety problem. Pedestrians may not hear their approach.
To solve this problem, federal law requires them to emit noise at a specific volume. Chevrolet says that “an incorrect software calibration” left some 2024 Equinox EVs too quiet to comply with the law at very low speeds.
The company says it is still developing a remedy for the problem. The solution will likely be a software update.
When it comes, it will be free. Dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
