- Chevrolet claims the new king of the Corvette lineup has achieved a zero-to-60 mph time of 1.68 seconds, with no non-standard equipment, but on a prepped surface.
- The obscure Rimac Nevera can best it, but many cars far more expensive than the Corvette cannot.
Chevrolet has a new top dog, and it’s very, very fast.
The company claims that its Corvette ZR1X accelerated from a standstill to 60 mph in just 1.68 seconds “on pump gas, using standard-equipment tires and production 50-state street-legal engine calibration.”
The GM development engineer behind the wheel used launch mode, which is standard on the ZR1X. It “manages tire spin, transmission clutch application rate, and numerous other parameters, allowing the driver to optimize acceleration runs by adjusting launch RPM and wheel slip targets from the auxiliary driver display.”
The car performed the feat on a “prepped surface.” A common technique in high-performance testing, that involves spraying the track with a sticky chemical to increase tire grip.

About the ZR1X
- The ZR1X is a hybrid with 1,250 horsepower and all-wheel drive (AWD)
The 2026 Corvette ZR1X is a hybrid, combining a LT7 twin-turbo V8 engine powering the rear axle with a front axle electric motor for an eye-popping total of 1,250 horsepower. The hybrid setup means it’s all-wheel drive (AWD).
It’s the most expensive Corvette ever, at $211,395 including a $1,695 destination charge. However, Chevrolet would like us to point out that that’s cheaper than the only cars that can come close to its feat of speed.
The Rimac Nevera is likely the only car in the world that can beat it. That quad-motor all-electric hypercar is extremely rare, costs more than $2.5 million, and can reach 60 mph in 0.02 seconds less than the ZR1X, according to Chevrolet.
The $2.2 million Pininfarina Battista is slower to 60, at 1.79 seconds.
In fact, the only car that comes close to the Corvette’s dollar-per-second rating (a metric we just made up) is the all-electric Lucid Air Sapphire. For just under $250,00, it will make the leap in 1.89 seconds.
Incredibly, the Air is not a 2-seater supercar. It’s a 4-door luxury sedan.
