Complex machines can have simple problems. Buyers of Chevrolet’s new Blazer Electric Vehicle (EV) have complained of a consistent nagging problem – poor phone call quality. Chevrolet has now acknowledged the source of the problem, and it’s stunningly simple – factory workers installed some microphones backward.
Dealers will fix it for free. The fix takes minutes and can be done in a dealership parking spot. It’s simple enough that you might be tempted to do it yourself, but for warranty reasons, we’d recommend letting a Chevy repair technician handle it.
The fix isn’t a formal recall campaign because it doesn’t fix a safety problem. However, Chevrolet has filed a Technical Service Bulletin to let the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration know it is dealing with the issue.
The document tells dealer techs to reverse the microphone and reinstall it.
Chevrolet says that should fix the problem because it aligns the microphone with the hole designed for it.
The Blazer EV has had a rough launch. Our editors genuinely enjoy driving it and love its aggressive looks. However, enough minor software problems plagued early buyers that Chevrolet stopped sales of the SUV for more than a month earlier this year to rework much of the software that controls infotainment and charging, among other features.
Their solutions seem to have worked, as owners have mostly ceased finding software bugs.
