Two weeks after revealing the new Cadillac Escala Concept during recent Monterey Car Week festivities, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen opened up about what we can expect to see in the way of upcoming real-world products from GM’s luxury division. His revelations came in response to an online story by The Detroit Bureau that raised questions about the possibility of trimming back the size and scale of the portfolio. While holding back on specific details, de Nysschen did state there will be no shortage of additions to the mix, including a new flagship model that, surprisingly, will not be a conventional 4-door sedan.
As for other new entries, Cadillac will add smaller “Lux 2” and “Lux 3” sedans, a sub-XT5 scaled crossover and a large crossover that will slot in between the Escalade and the XT5. There also will be a “major refresh” for the current XTS sedan as well as “a comprehensive enhancement” to the new CT6 later in its life cycle. Finally, de Nysschen noted there are new powertrain applications in the works for these vehicles, including New Energy applications. However, he stopped short of stating whether these will involve more sophisticated forms of internal combustion engines or possibly come in the form of pure electric, hybrid or fuel cell alternatives.
