Buyers can place orders for Cadillac’s first electric vehicle (EV) beginning May 19.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is a midsize SUV with sharp, distinctive looks inside and out. It kicks off a new design language for GM’s luxury brand, with tailored lines and a huge, grinning LED light display in place of a grille. A luxurious, minimalist cabin is dominated by a huge, 33-inch curved touchscreen display and plenty of Cadillac’s trademark piano black, capacitive touch controls.
The Lyriq launches with an MSRP of $58,795, but top-of-the-line models could stretch as high as $90k. In standard form, it will use a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, good for 325 horsepower. Cadillac claims a range of more than 300 miles. The EPA has not yet tested that.
An all-wheel-drive version with a motor on each axle will come later. The company hasn’t given power figures for that one.
Some automakers sell their electric vehicles through a reservation system requiring buyers to pay a fee to claim a place in line and later order their vehicle. Cadillac says, however, that Lyriq buyers can place an order directly on May 19.
The company will reveal a second EV — a full-size flagship sedan known as the Celestiq — later this year.
