Cadillac To Add Electric Flagship Celestiq Sedan

Cadillac is going all-electric, even with its top-of-the-line model. GM plans to make its luxury brand a 100 percent electric rival to Tesla by 2025 and has been steadily previewing the battery-powered cars that will carry the Cadillac crest for a year. The latest entry is the brand’s banner carrier, and it’s…well…it’s hard to tell. It’s dark.

A heavily-shadowed look is all we have to go on, so far, for the upcoming Cadillac Celestiq (pronounced ce-LESS-tick, according to GM Director of Interior Design Crystal Windham). The car appeared in shadow behind presenters at the GM presentation at today’s Consumer Electronics Show.

The Celestiq appears to share a bloodline with the Lyriq electric vehicle (EV) that we have seen in daylight. A fastback roof and illuminated grille set it dramatically apart from anything in GM’s current lineup.

But it’s inside that the standout features really show. The roof employs electrochromatic glass, split into four segments, allowing the driver to adjust the tint of each separately. The dashboard houses a single screen that reaches nearly the entire width of the car, like Mercedes’ highly-touted Hyperscreen. Rear passengers get their own separate entertainment screens.

Speakers revealed that the Celestiq will be all-wheel drive, with 4-wheel steering. No other mechanical details are known at this point. Cost is unknown, though the Celestiq will undoubtedly be the most expensive Cadillac product. With the Lyriq expected to go on sale for the 2023 model year, we wouldn’t expect to see the Celestiq until at least that time.
