As part of Cadillac’s return of its headquarters to Detroit from New York, the division announced a new naming system that highlights the torque of its vehicles. The 2020 XT6 crossover SUV, which will be launched later this year, will carry a 400 badge representing the twin-turbo V6 engine’s 295 lb-ft of torque in Newton meters.
Cadillac says it is replacing the current naming convention, which emphasizes engine displacement with figures like 2.0 and 3.6 with the torque number to better reflect the performance of turbocharged engines as well as the importance placed on torque in its coming range of electric vehicles.
According to a Cadillac spokesperson, “The new system uses a 3-digit badge representative of torque output in newton meters (Nm) rounded to the nearest 50, which allows for simple, clear expressions of power. Starting with MY20 all Cadillac vehicles, except V-series, will feature this new engine badging.”
