Bugatti shows Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Legends Edition

Hoping for a bit of Bugatti-based eye candy? No problem. The boutique French automaker has just released the first of what will be six special-edition "Legend" vehicles that are being created to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals who have helped shape its illustrious 104-year history. All will be based on the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse model – aka the world’s fastest production convertible – that packs an 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine tuned to make 1,183 horsepower and take the car to a Guinness-verified top speed of 254.04 mph.

The premier Veyron Legend commemorative is named after French driving great Jean-Pierre Wimille, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Bugatti in 1937 and again in 1939 driving the iconic Type 57 "Tank" models. While no changes were made to the mechanicals of the Grand Sport Vitesse, its custom two-tone bodywork matches special blue clearcoat carbon-fiber with unique Wimille Bleu paint. The cabin boasts a matching color scheme and also incorporates unique details relevant to Wimille. Here, that includes a track map of the famed Circuit de la Sarthe where he attained his greatest glory as a driver.

Bugatti will build only three examples of each Legends car and plans to release a new one every two months over the course of the next year. The Bugatti Legend Jean-Pierre Wimille will make its public debut next month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering. Bugatti has yet to reveal any pricing information on the car, but, for the record, a standard Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse opens around $2.25 million.
