BMW Recalls Some X5, X6, X7 SUVs Over Airbag Problem

BMW has recalled 25 X5, X5 plug-in hybrid (PHEV), X6, and X7 SUVs from model year 2026 because their passenger’s side airbags might not deploy properly in an accident.

The passenger side airbag deploys through a slit in the instrument panel. But BMW tells federal safety officials that some dashboards left the factory without the slit. That could trap an inflating airbag behind the dashboard.

Quality control inspectors found the problem at the factory. BMW is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to it.

Dealers will replace the instrument panel to fix the problem.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
