As previewed here in early April, the BMW i8 Concept Spyder made its promised public debut at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. In addition to showing the open-air version of the original i8 Concept, the automaker also confirmed that the new “eDrive” badge on its rear valance panel will become the official designation used for all future BMW vehicles fitted with any type of its pure electric or plug-in hybrid technologies. Specifically, BMW’s eDrive system encompasses all of the key elements in the drivetrains of these vehicles, including their BMW-designed electric motors, the lithium-ion battery packs that energize them and the intelligent motor management system.
