- Redesigned Continental GT adds V8 to range
- Twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine makes 542 hp
- 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, 198 mph top speed
- U.S. launch this fall
As a follow-up to the launch of redesigned 12-cylinder Bentley Continental GT Coupe and Convertible, the British automaker has added a less expensive V8-powered variant that still promises electrifying performance. The 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 and Continental GT V8 Convertible are expected in U.S. showrooms before the end of the year.
The all-wheel drive Coupe and Convertible will boast a new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 delivering 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. Bentley says 0-60 mph acceleration will take just 3.9 seconds for the Coupe and 4.1 seconds in the Convertible on the way to a top speed of 198 mph.
V8 model touches
The 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 models have distinct 20-inch 10-spoke painted alloy wheels, quad exhaust pipes and subtle V8 badging on the front fenders. Buyers can also choose from up to nine other wheel designs in diameters up to 22 inches.
Bentley says the power top on the convertible can be raised or lowered in 19 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. Seven different colors are offered for the fabric roof, including a new tweed design for the first time. The Continental GT V8 Convertible is also equipped with a neck warmer integrated into the heated/ventilated front seats.

Handcrafted interior
Even though the engine may have four fewer cylinders than the top models in the range, there is no shortage of handcrafted details on the interior. High quality leather and exclusive wood veneers are featured in the cabin, along with 20-way adjustable seats, a 10-speaker, 650-watt Bentley audio system, and an optional rotating display in the center of the dash that can show three faces including a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a veneer panel or one with three analog gauges.
The 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 Coupe and Convertible ride on a 3-chamber air suspension system with comfort and sport modes to control chassis response. Active all-wheel drive varies the front/rear torque split to deliver the most power to the axle with the greatest grip. The Continental GT is also equipped with a wide range of driver aids including active lane assist, traffic jam assist, and park assist.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but the 2018 Bentley Continental GT V8 Coupe was priced from $218,400, while the W12 version started at $231,800.
