In a move that foreshadows its entrance into the full-size SUV market, Audi released teaser images of the Q8 concept it will show at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The design study blends a sleek coupe profile on a spacious platform that will result in a vehicle positioned above the current Q7. The company believes it will be the first full-size SUV with this so-called coupe styling.

“With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige,” said Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte. “What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this show car is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line.”
Quattro-inspired styling
The imposing front end of the Q8 sports an octagonal single frame grille that is wider than the opening used on current production Q models. The muscular body sports body panels that employ dynamic 3-dimensional sculpted shapes. Audi says the Q8 concept embraces design cues from the company’s Ur-quattro all-wheel drive coupes of the 1980s, including a flat and wide C-pillar offset by flared shoulders above the wheels. The Q8 Concept is set for a January 9 reveal during the press days.
