Audi AG will take over U.S.-based mobility technology company Silvercar Inc. by mid-2017 pending approval from various regulatory bodies. Early last year, Audi purchased a minority position in the innovative car-sharing firm for $28 million. Established in 2012 Silvercar rents only fully loaded, Audi-owned silver A4 models from its select airport locations and allows customers to schedule pickups and returns for these vehicles via a dedicated smartphone app.

Silvercar, which earned the World Travel Award for being North America’s best rental car service in 2015, now has outlets in 15 locations. With Audi taking complete ownership, the two plan to cooperate on expanding that reach and developing a full range of even more focused mobility services in the U.S. for both brands.

Now we are joining forces and, together, are driving our initiative for innovative mobility services forward.”
