Created specifically to meet the requirements of the Chinese market but showcasing logic that could easily transfer to other areas of the world, the Audi A6 L e-tron Concept represents the automaker’s first application of its e-tron plug-in hybrid technology on a luxury sedan.
Audi‘s best-seller in China, the long-wheelbase A6 L was a natural candidate for this PHEV transformation, which retains all of the vehicle’s normal basic luxury features but matches the firm’s well-proven 211-horsepower/2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor that contributes another 95 peak horses. It’s energized by a rear-mounted liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack that allows the Audi A6 L e-tron Concept to travel up nearly 50 miles on a single charge in EV mode at a constant speed of 38 mph. In addition to being able to operate using either individual motive source, the A6 L e-tron Concept can combine the two for an extra measure of performance. It also features a regenerative braking system that can help replenish its battery pack on the fly.
