Aston Martin Design Prototype 100 Vision Gran Turismo revealed

Aston Martin became the latest manufacturer to reveal its new entrant for the Sony PlayStation 3 racing game Gran Turismo 6. Downloadable in virtual form but appearing as a real-world static one-off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Aston Martin Design Prototype 100 Vision Gran Turismo reflects a radical rethinking of the automaker’s existing styling themes and packs an 800-horsepower version of Aston’s 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 behind the driver.

The product of six months of intensive effort at the firm’s Gaydon headquarters, the Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo features a fully functional race-tuned suspension system and active aerodynamics as well as state of the art electronics. "We effectively used the same processes and the same principles to design this car for the game that we would for putting a car on the road, so the shape and the form had to be real," noted Design Director Marek Reichman. "All of our racing technology, all of the passion that we put into our road cars also is here in the DP-100." 

Aston Martin’s design group also created a fully finished cabin for the DP-100 racer, but its grand unveiling at Goodwood did not include a look inside. However, we do know that the choice of materials and colors in this competition-focused realm were specifically selected to complement those found on the car’s exterior.

While much of the DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo’s more radical elements will likely remain in the digital fantasy realm, Reichman also indicated that certain aspects do have real-world potential. "As with the CC100 Speedster Concept, many of the design cues visible in DP-100, such as the light blade rear lamps, could also feed through into future sports cars that we’ll launch in the offline world so the importance of this project should not be underestimated."

Like its Gran Turismo 6 virtual gridmates, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo and Volkswagen Golf GTI Roadster vision Gran Turismo, PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo in July.
