In a statement made during the firm’s 2013 annual report, Aston Martin Chief Financial Officer, Hanno Kirner, announced the automaker will soon undertake the largest investment program in its 101-year history. "We are engineering a completely new architecture and technologies to ensure that our next generation of sports cars is at the forefront of design, performance and technology," noted Kirner, who added the wide-ranging modernization effort will be implemented over the course of the next several years.

While Kirner provided no specific details, the replacement for the company’s current "VH" architecture that was introduced in 2001 is expected to remain an aluminum-intensive modular design. Speculation is that it will first be used on a 2017 model, possibly the next-gen DB9. Kirner further confirmed Aston’s intent to fully leverage its strategic partnership with Daimler AG, stating the relationship will yield "cutting edge electrical and electronic expertise, and the shared development of world-class bespoke V8 powertrains."
