Tesla Taps Apple Engineer

Tesla announced that Chris Lattner has joined its company as the Vice President of Autopilot Software. An outstanding software engineer, Lattner spent the last 11 years at Apple where among other things, he was instrumental in developing the Swift programming language that simplifies the task of creating iOS apps for the firm’s devices. In his new capacity, Lattner will be charged with further accelerating Tesla’s efforts to further accelerate the future of autonomous driving.

Shortly after the Lattner move was confirmed by the automaker, Apple news site 9to5Mac broke a story that another top Apple exec, Director of Design Mike Casebolt, also has made the move to Tesla. A lead figure in the development of the Mac Pro and MacBook, Casebolt will serve as director of engineering for closures and mechanisms.
