Sneak peek: Toyota teases 2014 Corolla

Although the wraps won't officially come off the all-new 2014 Toyota Corolla until June 6, the automaker has just released this first detail image of its upcoming compact model which draws inspiration from the well-received Toyota Corolla Furia Concept revealed last January at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. While it's hard to tell from this close-up just how much of that striking one-off will become part of the production Corolla, this taillamp and decklid spoiler from the sporty "S" version do bear a more-than-causal resemblance to their counterparts on the Furia. We're hoping a similar kind of family tie will be equally evident in the front-end treatment of the new Corolla.

For far too long, Toyota's popular front-drive sedan has been a stylistic also-ran in its segment. The arrival of this next-gen Corolla offers a perfect opportunity to see exactly what Toyota boss Akio Toyoda had in mind when he announced plans to endow all of the company's future products with more emotional design.
