Revealed: Kia Optima Hybrid Superman Concept - Chicago 2013
Revealed in Chicago, the Kia Optima Hybrid Superman Concept is the seventh and latest of created-for-charity one-off based around a Superhero member of DC Comics' mythical Justice League. Like all of its predecessors, this unique ride is helping raise interest in DC Entertainment's "We Can Be Heroes" giving campaign aimed at fostering support for famine relief in the Horn of Africa (www.WeCanBeHeroes.org).
"As the most recognized Superhero in the world, Superman is a symbol of strength and integrity, making him the perfect character to join forces with Kia's first-ever hybrid to create a customized ride powered by a robust and efficient powertrain," said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing and communications, KMA, at the reveal.
A collaborative effort between Kia Motors America, DC Entertainment and Super Street Magazine, the Man of Steel's custom wheels feature the distinctive blue/red/yellow color scheme long favored by Krypton's most famous refugee. In addition to a faithfully replicated "S" logo on its hood, the red accent paintwork on the upper body of this high-profile Optima Hybrid is designed to mimic the look of Superman's cape. Other notable exterior changes include wider fenders that house low-profile/high-performance tires on unique red alloy wheels, a custom beveled front grille made to resemble Superman's belt, and red headlights that glow with the same intensity as Superman's heat vision." The car also features a functioning adjustable suspension setup that can raise or lower the vehicle at the touch of a button.
Inside, the Kia Optima Hybrid Superman Concept reprises the signature color set and uses an assortment of materials and upholstery techniques that attempt to mimic the "appearance and texture of the Superman's impenetrable battle armor." Completing the look are supersized logos on the steering wheel and seatbacks.
