2017 Porsche 911 Carrera First Review Video

Change is hard. Take the Porsche 911 for example. Grounded in tradition the modern 911 must retain the classic shape, rear engine layout, and raucous road manners of its forebears yet simultaneously function as an advanced technological flagship for the Porsche brand. Such an uneasy perch between past and future could doom lesser cars but somehow the 911 thrives.

The 7th generation 911 platform, referenced internally as 991, debuted in 2012 and included a host of performance and efficiency enhancements. Building on that foundation Porsche has updated the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models for the 2017 model year, incorporating subtle exterior tweaks, a new infotainment system, a newly-standard adaptive suspension system, and several truly compelling performance-focused features. Still, the biggest news for the “entry-level” 911 sits behind the rear tires, where new turbocharged engines bring notable gains in both power and efficiency.

Micah Muzio recently had the opportunity to drive this greatly improved 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S. Spoiler alert, he really likes it. For a deeper look watch the video above.
