Due for its global reveal at the LA Auto Show, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is being shown in stylized pseudo post cards from the automaker that show little and tell even less. This upcoming 2-seat roadster shares a platform with the new Mazda MX-5, and earlier leaks and spy shots provide a background as to what we can expect.

Built at the same Hiroshima plant that turns out the MX-5, this modern interpretation of the original Fiat 124 will have its own front and rear styling and suspension tuning. It also will be powered by a version of the Fiat turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir engine also used in the 500 and other FCA models and not the 2.0-liter SkyAcitv Mazda 4-cylinder in the MX-5. A choice of 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic will be offered. While Los Angeles will see the unveiling of the new Fiat 214 in its standard form, there's good reason to believe a considerably more potent Abarth version with a different engine and unique exterior treatment will be introduced at some point down the road, possibly as soon as next March in Geneva.
