The Acura TLX deserves more recognition.
It competes with some of the world’s most well-rounded cars, like the venerable Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series, with its sports-car-in-a-business-suit reputation. The TLX can go unnoticed in that field, despite its outstanding build quality, long list of luxuries, and the optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that makes it handle like a dancer.
It sits fourth in our list of the Best Luxury Midsize Cars. Fourth in a list of outstanding cars is an achievement, but the ones on the medal stand get all the press.
What would help bring some notice to the TLX? How about a high-performance special edition? What if each car were hand-inspected, tested, and tuned by the team behind the legendary NSX supercar?
Hand-tuned by Racing Engineers
It’s called the 2023 Acura TLX Type S PMC Edition (Performance Management Center — where Honda’s luxury division builds its supercar). It features the same 355-horsepower turbocharged V6, 10-speed automatic transmission, and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive as other Type S models. But the PMC edition has been tested and adjusted by Acura racing engineers.
It comes in red, white, or Acura’s signature Long Beach Blue, with a black contrast-color roof and 20-inch copper-colored wheels. Inside, it gets carbon fiber trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and custom interior colors.
Long Beach Blue models get creamy orchid leather upholstery, white editions get a stunning red interior, and Curva Red models use black leather with red stitching.
3 Colors, 3 Sale Dates
Acura will build just 300 copies and sell them in waves. The first wave kicks off Oct. 6, 2022, when Acura will accept reservations for the first 100 PMC Edition models.
Curva Red goes first. Reservations for the white model start Nov. 9. Buyers interested in Long Beach Blue can raise their hand on Dec. 8.
There’s just one problem — no one outside Acura knows what they’ll be paying. Acura says, “Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is expected to be in the low-to-mid $60K range.”
We’re a little confused about how they don’t know when they’re the ones accepting reservations. Check Acura.com at 7:00 am EST/10:00 am PST to get in line. Acura’s press release announcing the deadline doesn’t disclose the reservation fee. We’ve asked for clarification and will update this story if it comes.
