Acura NSX prototype prepares for its first on-track appearance

While it won’t be serving in any official capacity, a prototype version of the Acura NSX is set to make its dynamic debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course prior to the Honda Indy 200 IndyCar event being held there on August 4. Save for confirming that its supercar-to-be will be fitted with a production-spec VTEC V6 engine/7-speed automatic transmission and Acura‘s new three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system when it hits the legendary 2.4-mile road course to complete several exhibition laps, Acura provided no other details about the vehicle.

Beyond its high-profile graphics, a closer look at the sole image released indicates few changes from the original NSX prototype that was unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show and reprised there in a mildly revamped form last January. The venue for its first at-speed outing is particularly relevant as production versions of the Acura NSX will be assembled at the new Performance Manufacturing Center in nearby Marysville, which is located about 60 miles southwest of the Mid-Ohio track. For those NSX fans not able to be in attendance, the Honda Indy 200 will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network starting at 3 PM EDT.
