- The 2027 Volvo EX60 goes on sale this spring, with performance P12 and Cross Country models to follow.
- The electric midsize SUV has a range of up to 400 miles.
- All-new EX60 debuts a new electric vehicle (EV) architecture, new software, new motors, and a new look.
The new 2027 Volvo EX60 debuted to the world on Wednesday in Stockholm, Sweden. The electric midsize SUV points the Swedish brand forward with a new architecture, new motors, new software, and a whole lot of other newness that makes the EX60 somewhat superlative: It’s the longest-range Volvo, has the fastest charging times, and it’s one of the quicker Volvos to date.
The EX60 can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge, and go from zero-to-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, according to Volvo. On a properly equipped DC fast charger, the EX60 can recoup 173 miles of range in 10 minutes at a peak output of 370 kW. Chargers with that much power are rare in the U.S.
“With this car, we remove all remaining obstacles for going electric,” Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars, said in a statement.
The 2027 Volvo EX60 goes on sale in the U.S. this spring at a time when EV sales have cooled. The performance P12 variant arrives this fall, and a raised EX60 Cross Country model comes later as a 2028 model.
Offered in seven variants with three powertrain options, the EX60 dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version should cost about $60,000, Volvo estimates. The brand expects the core model’s price to stay in that range even with fluctuating tariffs imposed on its import from Gothenburg, Sweden. Here’s what we know for sure.

EX60 Style
The classic Volvo wagon may be dead in the U.S., but the new EX60 takes on the rounded tail of a wagon, but with short overhangs that improve aerodynamics and optimize interior space. Besides its taller ride height, the EX60 looks like a stubby wagon. It’s nearly half a foot longer than the XC60 midsize SUV, and is larger and roomier. It rolls on 20-inch wheels, though less-efficient 21- and 22-inch wheels are options.
Volvo leans into its spartan design with even fewer controls in the EX60. The software-defined vehicle features next-gen processors and an operating system using Google Gemini AI that promises continual updates and machine learning.
On the more visible, practical side, the door handles aren’t handles; they’re flanges or fins protruding from the base of the windowsill. Inside, the air vents have no louvers and are controlled through the horizontally oriented 15-inch touchscreen. The dash sports mixed materials, including wood trim and a textile fabric reminiscent of the kind of fibers that cause knee burns. A recessed and narrow instrument cluster houses key driving info, but, as with the smaller EX30, most other vehicle information and controls are relegated to the touchscreen. Instead of a glove box, a tall cabinet good for stowing bags hinges open from the center stack. The center console and its cupholders retract into the armrest console.
EX60 Size and Roominess

Optimized for space, the EX60 uses the brand’s modular EV platform dubbed SPA3 that embraces an electric vehicle architecture from the onset, instead of being designed to accommodate combustion engines as well. This, along with a hardware and software system developed in-house, allowed engineers to cut wiring, shed weight, reduce complexity, trim costs, and optimize space. It also enabled more modularity, so the EX60 can come with one of three battery pack sizes that are core components of the vehicle structure.
The EX60 is large for the midsize segment, but not quite as large as Volvo’s biggest vehicle, the 3-row EX90. At 189.1 inches long, it’s 9.2 inches shorter than the EX90, but the wheelbase is only 0.6 inches shorter. That adds up to a roomy cabin with more second-row legroom than the EX90 (37.4 inches in the EX60 versus 36.5 inches in the EX90).
The wagon-like cargo hold sits tall, and with the 40/20/40-split rear seats folded flat, there’s 64.3 cubic feet of cargo room. The 3.0-cubic-foot front trunk holds a small briefcase or the charging cable.
EX60 Range and Charging

The 800-volt electric architecture — another Volvo first that’s shared with the 2026 EX90 — enables some of the quickest DC fast charging times. The first Volvo electric vehicle to come with a native North American Charging System (NACS) port, the EX60 benefits from charging at up to 370 kW. At that rate, it can recoup 173 miles in 10 minutes.
For a more standardized metric, the EX60 can DC fast charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes, matching Hyundai EVs as the quickest-charging EVs on sale right now.
At home, via its 19.2-kW onboard charger, the EX60 can charge easily overnight. Volvo did not have Level 2 charge estimates at press time.
EX60 Performance

Perhaps most surprising on this vehicle of Volvo superlatives is the range of powertrain options. Seven models can be configured from three battery pack sizes.
- EX60 P6: Single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) with an 80-kWh battery pack and 310-mile range; it makes 369 horsepower, 354 lb-ft of torque, and has a zero-to-60-mph time of 5.7 seconds.
- EX60 P10: AWD with a 91-kWh pack and 320 miles of range; it makes 503 hp, 524 lb-ft, and has a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds.
- EX60 P12 AWD with a 112-kWh pack and 400 miles of range; it makes 670 hp, 583 lb-ft, and has a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds.
The P6 and P10 go on sale this spring. The P12 arrives later this year, but Samuelsson debunked any possibility of a new performance line from Volvo, like Polestar Engineered in years past. The P12 takes direct aim at the bestselling Tesla Model Y and its performance trim.
A year from now, Volvo expects to launch the 2028 Volvo EX60 Cross Country. All models weigh in the vicinity of 5,000 pounds.

EX60 Cross Country
The taller-riding variant will come with an air spring suspension that will raise the ground clearance from 7.2 inches on the standard model to up to 7.6 inches. Like many Cross Country wagons before it, the EX60 Cross Country will have flared wheel arches, an exclusive Frost Green color, distinctive wheels and bumpers, as well as skid plates front and rear. It will be sold only as an AWD model in either P10 or P12 configurations.
Expect full pricing this spring before the EX60 goes on sale.
