- AMG, the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz, rolled out an updated super-serum version of the brand’s compact SUV today.
- The new 6-cylinder-equipped GLC AMG 53 4MATIC+ takes the place of the 4-cylinder GLC AMG 43.
In recent years, AMG, the speed shop of Mercedes-Benz, has built some of the most powerful production 4-cylinder engines ever seen. With the help of electric turbochargers and mild-hybrid systems, they’ve squeezed more than 400 horsepower from some 4-cylinder powerplants. Those are numbers only a V8 could have managed not long ago.
But their 4-cylinder period may be ending.
The company today raised the curtain on an updated AMG GLC, replacing the 4-cylinder engine with an inline-6-cylinder model. The 2027 AMG GLC will be available in SUV and SUV Coupe body styles.
The engine wizardry is still there. This 3.0-liter engine combines a traditional exhaust gas turbocharger with an electric auxiliary compressor. They combine to produce 443 hp.

AMG says, “The high-performance six-cylinder unit has been comprehensively redeveloped and impresses with an even more agile response and a strong appetite for revs.”
Power goes through a 9-speed automatic transmission to the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Every buyer gets at least five drive modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. Opting for the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package adds Race and Drift.
Exterior changes are minor, and include a larger front splitter, a larger lip spoiler, and high-gloss black on the rear diffuser.
Also new for 2027 is a Gold Accents Package. Offered only in Obsidian Black Metallic or Graphite Grey Magno paint, it adds gold graphics and black wheels edged in gold-colored trim. Inside, contrast stitching is gold, and gold accents appear woven into the carbon fiber trim.
