- The redesigned hybrid SUV starts at $33,350, which is technically less than the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid
- The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid was standard with all-wheel drive; the new 2026 RAV4 Hybrid comes with front-wheel drive standard
- Still, all things equal, the 2026 RAV4 costs only $450 more than the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid, and it’s better equipped
The redesigned 2026 Toyota RAV4 starts at $33,350, including the $1,450 destination fee, Toyota announced on Wednesday. The best-selling non-truck in America technically costs $950 less than the 2025 RAV4 Hybrid, but there’s an asterisk. Toyota offers the RAV4 as a standard hybrid or available plug-in hybrid, but for the first time, the hybrid comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) as standard. The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid had all-wheel drive (AWD) standard.
When comparing the same drivetrains, the 2026 RAV4 with AWD will cost $450 more than its hybrid AWD predecessor when it goes on sale this winter. Considering all the upgrades, however, it’s still a deal. The 2026 RAV4 PHEV, or plug-in hybrid, also gains significant upgrades, including a new GR Sport trim, but it arrives later, in early 2026.
What’s New for the 2026 Toyota RAV4
The sixth-generation RAV4 has the same overall dimensions as its predecessor, but the chassis has been reinforced for a quieter, calmer ride. Most everything is new, especially the blockier design. It’s offered in seven trim levels, including the first-ever GR Sport, which is sold exclusively as a plug-in hybrid. LE, XLE Premium, and Limited trims only come as a hybrid, while SE, Woodland, and XSE can be had as either the standard hybrid or the PHEV.
Toyota ditched the gas-only option, so the 2026 RAV4 comes as a hybrid with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. It’s rated at 226 horsepower. Opt for AWD and a third motor powering the rear axle, and the total system output increases to 236 hp (from 219 hp last year).
The significant design overhaul carries over inside, with a more user-friendly cockpit and better-organized controls in the console.
Every RAV4 comes with fresh technology and larger displays with modern graphics, which have been missing from the RAV4, among other Toyota vehicles. Standard tech includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an enhanced 10.5-inch touchscreen (or available 12.9-inch touchscreen) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new operating system, Arena, sharpens the displays and makes the system more responsive. Most of the climate functions migrate to the touchscreen, but buttons remain for adjusting temperature.
Toyota also equips the new RAV4 with its latest suite of advanced driver-assist systems, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
What Is the 2026 Toyota RAV4 MPG?
The EPA hasn’t certified it yet, but Toyota expects the 2026 RAV4 to net 44 mpg combined with both FWD and AWD. Top AWD trims like XSE and Limited should get 42 mpg, while the Woodland trim and its all-terrain tires drop it to 39 mpg. The 2025 RAV4 Hybrid was rated at 39 mpg combined.
2026 Toyota RAV4 Pricing
The redesigned RAV4 comes standard as a hybrid, but Toyota offers it as a plug-in hybrid as well, called the RAV4 PHEV. Pricing for the 2026 RAV4 PHEV will be announced early in 2026. The standard RAV4 goes on sale soon. All prices listed include the mandatory $1,450 destination fee.

2026 Toyota RAV4 Pricing vs. the Competition
The 2026 RAV4 undercuts rival hybrids such as the Honda CR-V ($37,080) and Mazda CX-50 ($36,245), but the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid costs slightly less when comparing AWD models, at $33,695. That’s more than $1,000 less than the 2026 RAV4 LE AWD. But the Tucson Hybrid isn’t as efficient at 38 mpg combined. The segment is loaded with compelling rivals, including the new Subaru Forester Hybrid as well as the Kia Sportage Hybrid. And they’re all trying to keep up with the sales leader, the Toyota RAV4.
