2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Gets Big Power Boost

2022 VW ID.4From the outside, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 looks pretty much like the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. But the electric vehicle gets a radical upgrade for the new model year, with a new infotainment system, more power, and more range.

VW hasn’t revealed pricing for next model year yet. The 2023 edition starts at $38,995 and tops out over $55,000. But, because it’s built in Tennessee, it does qualify for the full $7,500 federal electric vehicle (EV) tax credit. Volkswagen says pricing for the 2024 ID.4 will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date in early 2024.

The powertrain improvements are significant. Buyers can choose from the same 62 or 82-kWh battery packs as last year. But new electric motors developed for the ID.7 mean both versions get more horsepower.

“The rear-wheel-drive model now produces an impressive 282 horsepower,” Volkswagen says, up from 201 in the model on dealership lots today. “The all-wheel-drive model now makes around 330 horsepower,” up from 295.

The company says both versions are “anticipated to deliver enhanced range” but hasn’t offered specific numbers yet.

The new infotainment system of the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4

The new infotainment system is limited to models with the 82 kWh battery. Buyers opting for the budget 62 kWh model get the older system. Some critics have found it slow and complained that sliding controls for the climate system aren’t backlit.

The new version has an improved interface. It gets a larger screen (12.9 inches instead of 12), backlit sliders, and what VW calls “a new and more intuitive climate control interface and a revised infotainment menu.”
